More than half of all murders committed in 2011 involved firearm use. In robberies, firearms were used in almost half of reported cases. Aggravated assaults were less likely to involve firearms. Aggravated assaults accounted for most of the violent crimes committed in the US in 2011. Restricting firearms will target murders which account for the smallest % of violent crimes.
