Each U.S. state is represented in the House in proportion to its population as measured in the census. The total number of voting representatives is fixed by law at 435. Looking at this data, we can see that within the last 100 years, there has been a population shift from northeast United States towards the west and south. More importantly, towards hotter and more humid states.
