Over 75% of American Catholics either believe divorce is acceptable or do not consider it a moral issue. There are slight hints at more liberal policies coming from the Vatican, as Pope Francis surprised many by recently wed couples with children out of wedlock, that had lived together before marriage, or that had been previously married.
