On March 2014, 3 political scientists asked a national sample of 2,066 Americans what action they wanted the U.S. to take in Ukraine. They also asked the survey respondents to locate Ukraine on a map. They found that the less accurate the participants were, the more they wanted the U.S. to use force.
I would assume that the people who thought it was part of the United States were very pro using force considering they believed that they were currently being invaded...
