U.S. foreign assistance for 2012 can be divided into two categories: military and economic assistance. This aid was paid out as obligations, or binding agreements, and Afghanistan received the most amount of aid in both categories by far. However, the U.S.'s attempts to restructure and stabilize Afghanistan's political structure has not been as successful as initially planned.
