Since 1990, pharmaceutical companies have launched multi-billion dollar compaigns to promote public awareness of ADHD. Historically estimated to affect 5% of children, the number of children diagnosed with ADHD skyrocketed from 600,000 in 1990 to 5 million today. Over this period, the FDA has cited every ADHD producer for false advertising. Still, company profits have quintupled.
