The role of government in healthcare has been a contentious issue for a long time. Over the last fifteen years, public opinion has swung back and forth between accepting and rejecting the federal government's active role in American healthcare. From 2000-2007, the vast majority of Americans supported idea that the government should be responsible for universal healthcare coverage. Upon passage of the ACA, however, public opinion has been much more mixed.
