Considered a watershed in one of America's largest forensic scandals, an ongoing investigation of 268 federal court trials has found that-- for decades-- elite FBI forensics examiners have overstated hair sample matches, in ways that favored prosecutors, in 95% of cases. Moreover, 32 of those cases resulted in defendants being sentenced to death. And while four have been exonerated, 14 have already been executed or died in prison. This confirms a long-suspected and widespread pattern of discriminating against those supposedly "innocent until proven guilty," via erroneous scientific evidence.
