Globally, 3.2M children under 15 were living with HIV in 2013, which amounts to 9.1% of all people living with HIV. The Global Plan for the elimination of new child HIV infections, launched in 2011 by the UNAIDS, has made some progress reducing that number from 350k in 2009 to 199k in 2013. However, it is still far from reaching the Global Plan's Target of reducing new child HIV infections by 90% in 2015. One of the main reasons for the high % of children with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa is the limited access to HIV services and treatment.
