Nonprofit revenues increased 79% from 2000 to 2010, now accounting for 5.5% of GDP. As technology makes the sharing of many goods and services essentially free, our resources are now being put towards strengthening social infrastructure and "civil society, which consists of nonprofit organizations that attend to the things in life we make and share as a community."
